Natatorium Staff Receive Honors

Congratulations!

Dennis P. Ryther, Natatorium Manager, was voted into the NJCAA Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame!

Patricia Estrada, Natatorium/Gymnasium Supervisor, received the Jack Cistrano Service Award.

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) is the governing body of intercollegiate athletics for two-year colleges. As such, its programs are designed to meet the unique needs of a diverse group of student-athletes who come from both traditional and non-traditional backgrounds and whose purpose in selecting a junior college may be as varied as their experiences before attending college. Given this perspective, the NJCAA accepts its responsibility by seeking to provide a competitive environment that is free from drug and substance use and abuse in any form for the purpose of facilitating or enhancing athletic performance by any athlete engaged in competition that is either sponsored or sanctioned by the NJCAA.

COMM Class visits KENS

Professor Mark Rios and his Communications 2339 class received a behind-the-scenes look at television news during a recent visit to KENS-TV. According to Rios, the visit was a great opportunity for students to view broadcast professionals in action. This Spring marks the first semester that Comm 2339 has been offered at PAC. Rios notes that Communication Department at Palo Alto College has “exploded” in the past year by adding 11 different courses to the program. Pictured are (Bottom Row) Bill Taylor, Chris Marrou, Sara Lucero, and Joe Reinagel. (Top Row) Professor Rios, Kat Garrahan, Liz Lopez, Erica Silva, Daniel Herrera, Teresa Cook, and Lauren Tuttle.

SAC Book Fair

Dear Faculty and Staff,

The following notice is from the PR Department at San Antonio College:

Dear Colleagues,

Anyone who has published a book and would like to promote it is invited to do so, at no cost, at the upcoming 11th Annual San Antonio College Book Fair on Saturday, April 8, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. To request a table to share in one of the Author Tents, please send a reply email to me by March 3 to give us time to order enough tables and chairs.

Authors should bring their own books and/or promotional materials, and we will supply the tables, chairs and tents. Each author must share a 6 foot table with another author, and we ask that you indicate if you are coming with a spouse or friend so we will have enough chairs on hand. We take reservations via email on a first-come, first-served basis until we run out of room. Volunteers can assist you with loading & unloading.

As most of you know, the Book Fair is a free outdoor book festival in the area near the Gym, Planetarium, Gonzales Hall, and Chemistry-Geology Building. It features authors, book stores, publishers, literacy organizations, live music, food, clowns, face painters, book costume characters, and children's activities. In previous years, as many as 3,000 people have attended throughout the day, depending on the weather.

Of course, whether you are an author or not, we hope you will plan to attend the Book Fair.

Thanks,

John Hammond
