Voting Update
In observance of Women’s History Month and elections being held today, here’s an interesting “On This Day” from the New York Times:
On March 4, 1933, the start of President Roosevelt's first administration brought with it the first woman to serve in the Cabinet: Labor Secretary Frances Perkins.
THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS FROM THE PRESIDENT OF PALO ALTO COLLEGE:
Dear Faculty and Staff,
Working within the framework listed below, I would like to encourage everyone to vote today. Supervisors, please be flexible with employees who would like to vote during working hours.
Thank you,
Dr. Ana M. “Cha” Guzmán

QUESTION:
We have received various versions of this question, “Do we get time off to vote or is that on our own time?”
DISTRICT RESPONSE:
District Policy does not provide for time off from work to vote.
The polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. If someone cannot get to the polls during their non-work time, individuals have the option of using personal or vacation leave. With the supervisor’s approval, there is an option of a flexible work schedule for the week that would allow for work time missed in order to vote to be made up sometime during the week.
