From Dan:

Did you know that over 1000 Tejanos sacrificed their lives for liberty and freedom…yet have been forgotten? It happened here in south Texas, and it was bigger and bloodier than the Alamo, San Jacinto, and Goliad combined. “Tejano Roots,” is the untold story of Tejanos who can finally claim their rightful place in the history of our country. “Tejano Roots,” bring a historic and a renewed sense of pride to our Mexican-American community with a story that belongs to them, their families, their history and their hearts.

On April 6th, 1813, ten years before the arrival of Stephen F. Austin, and after eight months of bloody fighting, the Tejano Community declared themselves to be free and independent of Spanish rule. The Tejano struggle for independence began in San Antonio with the Casas Revolt and it was a continuous affair with the Gutierrez-Magee Expedition of 1812, the four months siege of the Presidio in Goliad, the Battle of Rosillio, the Battle of Alazan, leading up to the “Battle of Medina.”
