Dr. ANTONIA CASTAÑEDA
Chicana Historian and Professor
“On Whose Shoulders We Stand: Chicana/Latina Visions, Power,
and Action in San Antonio”


Dr. Antonia I. Castañeda, prize winning historian who was named 2007 Scholar of the Year by the National Association of Chicana and Chicano Studies (NACCS), has taught U.S. History, Mexican American history, Women's History, Latina/o History, and Chicana/o studies in colleges and universities in Washington, California and Texas. She is co-editor of the Chicana Matters Book Series with U.T. Press, and is a founding member of Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social (MALCS). She has been appointed to the San Antonio Literacy Commission for District I, and to the Texas State Interagency Literacy Council.

Castañeda has an M.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of Washington and a Ph.D. in History from Stanford
