It took only 9 years but the University of Northern Iowa now a mariachi ensemble--MARIACHI PANTERA (the UNI mascot is the Panther)—composed of several former PAC students!

Mariachi Pantera performed at Dr. Roland Carrillo’s birthday. Carrillo is a San Antonio native, along with being UNI’s Financial Aid Director and a strong promoter of the PAC/UNI Bridge Scholarship Program. In the more than 20 years that Dr. Carrillo has lived in Iowa, this is the first time he has listened to a Mariachi group perform live on his campus…made even better since it was a serenade for his birthday.

Dr. Benjamin Allen, UNI president, was one of the first to inquire about Mariachi Pantera’s availability to perform at campus-wide events. The UNI staff and community have embraced the ensemble and have started booking the group for various on and off-campus performances.

Please join me in sending a “Job Well Done” to our former PAC mariachi students now attending UNI!
