PAC Updates

Here are some of the latest happenings and accomplishments by faculty and staff members that I wanted to share with you:

--Gary Shelman, Dean of Science & Technology, and Sharon Carson, Curriculum Analyst participated in the South Region Career and Technical Education Meeting, at St. Philip’s College, Oct. 7. Representatives from THECB, Community Colleges, and Tech Prep Consortia throughout the region gathered to discuss collaboration and coordination of efforts to meet the goals of Perkins IV in Texas.

--THECB’s Texas College Readiness Initiative selected Palo Alto’s English 1301 Pilot Curriculum as one of 10 Composition I courses considered most representative of entry-level college course practices in Texas. Caroline Mains, English Instructor and Assistant Department Chair, and Jenny Scheidt, Lead Instructor of Developmental English, will work with the Educational Policy Improvement Center to contribute to secondary and postsecondary curriculum alignment in Texas

--PAC's Information Technology Workforce Training received “The Best of Texas” award for its Creative Approach to Workforce Development Strategies at its annual award ceremony in Austin, Oct. 14. The Best of Texas awards program, sponsored by the Center for Digital Government, recognizes information technology (IT) professionals and government organizations for their contributions to the IT field in Texas.
