A&M Kingsville STEP Visit Opportunity

STEM* Talent Expansion Program (STEP)
A Model for Student Success and Persistence



Come spend one full week and two additional days on the beautiful campus of Texas A&M University-Kingsville and conduct breakthrough research under the supervision of one of our world-class faculty members. We will make every effort to match your interest with those of the faculty that will supervise you. Research topics from the engineering disciplines, mathematics, chemistry, and physics will be available. Previous years’ participants are not eligible to apply.
Stipend: The total stipend is $1000.00 for the research opportunity. If selected, you will receive $500.00 on the first day of the full week in Kingsville (to cover room and board expenses – university housing is available for those interested), and $500.00 upon receipt of a brief report of your research activities.

When: May 8, May 19 – 23, and May 30, 2008. Due to scheduling conflicts May 8 and May 30 will be one-day activities to allow May 19-23 to a full week of work on research projects.

How to become a participant:
· A completed application form
· A copy of your current transcript
· A copy of your resume
· A one page summary of your research interests and future academic goals
· Names and contact information for two mathematics or science faculty references
Selection criterion:
US citizen or permanent resident
Undergraduate community/junior college
Have completed a minimum of 16 college credit hours
Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
Have completed at least one (1) college level course in mathematics or science
Demonstrated interest in research

Deadline: Applications will be made available in January 2008 at the beginning of the Spring 2008 semester. All material must be received by a date in early March 2008 which is yet to be determined. Applicants will be notified about three weeks after the application deadline as to whether they have been accepted or not. Those who are accepted for the May-mester will receive a request for further information.
